Job Description Summary
The Registered Nurse I, under general supervision, provides direct patient care and treatment in accordance with professional nursing standards.
Required Education:
Must be licensed in the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas
Ability to obtain BLS certification within 6 months of employment
Licensure/certification must be maintained for continued employment
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
Ability to use and manage an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Interpersonal and organizational skills
Time management capabilities and prioritization skills
Other Requirements or Factors:
Ability to exert moderate force
This is a security-sensitive position
The individual in this position is required to handle Protected Health Information (PHI) as defined by HIPAA regulations
The individual is required to handle PHI in accordance with the A&M System policy and is further required to complete HIPAA training as a condition of employment, within a reasonable timeframe after the individual’s employment, and on an as-needed basis thereafter
Preferred Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse. Previous experience in a college health setting
Responsibilities:
Patient Care - Provides direct patient care including triage of patients, physical assessments, treatments, and the administration of medication and therapy as direction. Accurately documents patient care activities in the electronic medical records (EMR) system) in a timely manner. Provides patient education. Ensures patient care areas are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment. Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes exam rooms and medical equipment/supplies according to infection control procedures. Acts in accordance with all relevant laws, rules, regulations, and professional nursing standards.
Administrative - Provides input toward the development of nursing policies and procedures. Assists in the general upkeep of the nurses’ stations. Serves on committees as assigned. May provide supervision for student employees in the clinic in the absence of the nurse manager. Participates in continuing education activities. Performs other duties as assigned.
