Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse is responsible for performing standard nursing duties, and directly assisting the Physician and Nurse Practitioners at Student Health Services.

Required Education and Experience

Must be licensed by the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Two years experience as a Registered Nurse.

Required Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations

Currently licensed with the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within one year of employment.

Required Special Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Effective verbal communication skills. Ability to perform shift work. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Telephone triage and computer skills. Knowledge of medical equipment used at the Health Center.

Detailed Job Duties

Duties Performed

Performs standard nursing duties. Schedules student appointments. Participates in staff development and continuing education as appropriate.

Duties Performed

Responsible for the general welfare of patients in accordance with accepted nursing and medical standards. Provides accurate triage skills and determines the urgency of student’s complaints. May assume primary responsibility for clinic activities in the absence of departmental professional nursing staff.

Provides input toward development of policies/procedures. Attends meetings and serves on committees as assigned. Demonstrates regular and punctual attendance pattern.

Acts in accordance with all relevant local, state, and federal laws and judicial decisions as apply to the conduct of one’s professional duties. Supports the policies and procedures of Student Health Services, the Division of Student Affairs, and Texas A&M University.
