About the Department
 

The position is responsible for the application of principles and knowledge relevant to the technical support and administration of research projects in zebrafish and other aquatic model systems including cephalopods.


Job Summary
 

The job participates in scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Writes articles, reports and manuscripts. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains maintenance of OBA confocal microscope and related image analysis computers, training of microscope users in microscopy and image data analysis, liaison with BSD IT and Zeiss Microscopy Inc. to ensure regular updates to and optimal configuration of the system. Liaison with OBA office to ensure timely billing, budget management and long-term planning for the facility.

  • Care and maintenance of OBA central zebrafish aquarium facility, maintenance of transgenic and mutant lines. Oversight/training of all users in accord with relevant IACUC protocols.

  • Histology and other experimental approaches including immunohistochemistry, sectioning, mounting, image acquisition and analysis, behavioral experiments and physiological imaging.

  • Care and maintenance of other fish (non-zebrafish) and cephalopod study organisms.

  • Molecular biology approaches including generation of riboprobes, in situ hybridization, plasmid preps, CRISPR/Cas mutagenesis.

  • Lab management including regulatory compliance, training of lab staff, management of junior lab workers.

  • Applies research principles and relevant subject matter knowledge relevant to administer a research project. With a moderate level of direction, manages lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan.

  • Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects. Conducts literature reviews and helps write reports and manuscripts. Ensures project compliance with different policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.

  • Performs other related work as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
 

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
