JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Under limited supervision, uses a basic knowledge of public health principles to analyze, develop, implement, and promote new and creative strategies and solutions to address public health issues and challenges.
  • Addresses public health issues by providing education, technical assistance, advocacy, public awareness, and research.
  • Works with programs or studies designed to evaluate the prevalence or surveillance of public health issues and the effectiveness of targeted interventions.
  • May provide technical assistance to organizations to include presentations, web-based resources, strategies, and educational forums to address specific public health issues.
  • May work with clinical study sites on patient recruitment and data collection standards.
  • Assists with data collection and data analysis.
  • Contributes to proposals, protocols, data analysis plans, reports, manuscripts, and presentation of study findings.
  • May assist in designing, developing, and conducting targeted training initiatives.
  • May collaborate with external organizations to develop action plans and goals to achieve specific objectives.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

 

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

Our group is focused on developing and evaluating environmental health interventions in low- and middle-income countries. Specifically, we focus on interventions to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure/technology and associated behaviors. The staff member's role will be to support data analysis and provide overall project coordination for several ongoing projects in Mozambique, Madagascar, and Kenya. These projects are focused on improving food hygiene, safe water access, and climate resilience related to WASH. The candidate will support data collection and analysis of qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods studies. They will develop survey tools, supervise data collection, and write up reports. They will have the opportunity to lead peer-reviewed papers. They must be highly organized, have attention to detail, be able to manage multiple ongoing activities, and capable of working independently and in a team environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in Public Health, a master of science degree in Public Health or Health Education, OR a master's degree in Development Practice OR a master's degree in another field and one year of public health experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience living in or conducting field work in sub-Saharan Africa, specifically in Mozambique and/or Madagascar
  • Portuguese language proficiency
  • Experience working on water, sanitation, and hygiene-related interventions and/or environmental health programs.
  • Proficiency in STATA, SAS, or R for conducting quantitative data analysis and MAXQDA for qualitative data analysis
  • Experience conducting mixed-methods research
  • Experience with and understanding of implementation science
