The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner I to serve as a member of the Psychiatry and Behavioral Science department. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of psychiatric experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment. What you need to know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • A Master’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent level of education and experience that qualifies the applicant to hold a Nurse Practitioner License in Texas

  • Four years of behavioral health or related experience

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License in the area of Psychiatric/Mental Health, with prescriptive authority in Texas

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with others

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities

  • Experience in telehealth

  • Experience in working with interdisciplinary care teams. Experience in evidence-based treatment methods

  • Clinical experience with Children, adolescents, adults, couples, substance use, or trauma



Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Proven understanding of DSM5 diagnosis criteria and commonly prescribed psychiatric medications Comfortable with learning new technology and delivering services via telehealth

  • Ability to perform all tasks and responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines


Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct mental health services - Provide detailed Psychiatric Evaluations incorporating a biopsychosocial history including risk assessment and recommendation for treatment, under direction of a physician and within limitations of Nurse Practitioner regulations. Deliver Evidence Based Psychotherapy to patients using assessment tools to track patient progress and tailored intervention, under direction of a physician and within limitations of Nurse Practitioner regulations.

  • Provide Direct medication management - Provide medication management services to clients with appropriate needs, under direction of a physician and within limitations of Nurse Practitioner regulations.

  • Patient Management & Consultation - Provide specialty consultation to other health care staff. Assume responsibility for difficult and complex patients based on experience or area of expertise. Participate as a member of an inter- and intra- disciplinary team, including problem solving, program planning, clinical care planning, and quality improvement. Provides consultation to faculty, staff, students, and parents.

  • Supervision & Education - Serves as a practicum instructor or preceptor for graduate or undergraduate students. Conducts scholarly presentation to clinic staff and participate in educational activities for staff, students and trainees of other disciplines.

  • Quality Improvement & Research - Document services and activities per department standards and assist with program evaluation activities to track and analyze utilization and effectiveness of services. Contribute to department research mission as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
