Job Summary
Provide specialty medical services in a University Health Sciences clinic and hospital unit. The Division of Gynecologic Oncology is seeking a full-time nurse practioner to work on the inpatient Gynecologic Oncology service as well as see patients in the clinic. The applicant will work in conjunction with attending physicians and residents on a busy oncology service.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:
Nearly Continuously: Office environment.
Often: Infectious disease, oils (there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids), hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals).

Responsibilities: 
1. Takes complex medical histories on patients referred for consultation or in cancer surveillance
2. Performs physical examinations.
3. Orders laboratory tests, x-rays, special imaging studies and other diagnostic procedures.
4. May perform endometrial, cervical, or vulvar biopsies, skin biopsies, other clinic procedures.
6. Orders and supervises the administration of blood products.
7. Reaches tentative diagnosis of medical, surgical and other conditions.
8.  Develops treatment plans in conjunction with attending physicians to provide optimal patient medical management.
9. Participates in continuing medical education to include specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
10. Assists in the collection of data for research projects.
11. Orders consultations and interacts with members of other specialty medical teams.
12. Participates in special projects and committee functions.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions 
 
Assesses the physical condition of a group of patients by performing physical examinations and obtaining medical histories. 
Formulates the medical plan and prognosis based on patient’s condition. 
Consults with physician(s) regarding patient health care plans and treatment. 
Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient’s clinical problems and health care needs. 
Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence. 
Initiates and/or recommends medical drug therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy. 
Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents. 
Participates in quality improvement activities. 
Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promotes health maintenance. 
Evaluates, plans, implements, and re-evaluates the care of individuals requiring emergency measures. 
Problem Solving

Demonstrated clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area. 
Demonstrated leadership, teaching, research and communication skills. 
Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.

Minimum Qualifications

Required
Licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Utah.
Preferred
Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
Utah State prescriptive privileges.
Licensure is obtained by completing a Master’s degree in Nursing or equivalency (the only equivalency to the Master’s degree is current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner) and a National Certification which requires the successful completion of a nationally accredited examination.
UHPPM 1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.
