The Opportunity:

Planning, Design and Construction is looking for a Project Manager, Interior Design with an Interior Design background to join their team! This position is responsible for the coordination and management of design and construction efforts to ensure the successful completion of minor projects in accordance with the schedule, program, and budget of the work and institutional strategy of the University of Central Florida. In addition, this role plans, directs, and manages activities concerned with the design and construction of structures, facilities, and systems. This role also leads in the development of the design and construction project; manages its organization, scheduling, and implementation; and represents section leadership when needed. This role also develops test fits of space for renovation and remodel projects and develops a move coordination process to ensure personnel moves to various departments on campus. This position also develops and maintains pre-approved interior finish palates for renovation projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages and coordinates all aspects of projects including overseeing contractors, architects, engineers, and other consultants, in compliance with all aspects of the Project Manager Manual. Understands and supports campus sustainability efforts related to new construction and renovation projects.

  • Provides technical direction and assistance to bring deficiencies in design or implementation to the contractors, architects, and engineers and monitors final resolution. Understands the details of the project scope of work and reviews construction documents for errors and omissions prior to bid and permit issuance.

  • Inspects and reviews projects to monitor compliance with contract documents, building and safety codes, and other regulations.

  • Develops, reviews, and submits budget estimates and cost-tracking reports. Responsible for quickly and accurately identifying potential issues that may result in poor financial performance or quality.

  • Reviews change orders and additional service proposals and negotiates revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors. Develops and/or reviews project estimates bids and Guaranteed Maximum Prices as requested. Ensures timely payments by administering and overseeing the designer and contractor payment process.

  • Manages campus construction efforts with applicable departments and other facilities staff, including executing each phase of various projects (i.e. design, pre-construction, construction, post-construction, and project close-out).

  • Work with committees and staff on campus to make sure the university's standards and needs are being met by the project documents. Communicates with team members as well as keeps them active in decision-making (this includes communicating with all project stakeholders on a regular basis). Confers with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.

  • Develops test fits of space for renovation/remodel projects. Develops total project cost estimates for renovation/remodel projects, using recent construction data. For larger space renovation/remodel projects, coordinates test fit and cost estimating with third-party planners and architects, managing these efforts using the department's project management software. Works with the Space Committee, as needed, to determine the best campus locations for programs that need to be relocated.

  • Develops and maintains pre-approved interior finish palates for renovation projects, coordinating with operations to minimize attic stock needs. Develops and maintains an interior finish library for our most frequently used products. Involved in the design meetings of Capital Projects to ensure the interior finishes selected meet UCF standards and the design is consistent with the UCF brand.

  • Coordinates furniture on Capital Projects with the UCF project manager and the project’s interior designer – selection choices, UCF procurement coordination, material selections, durability standards, sustainability standards; ensures timely delivery and installation of final products, etc.

  • Develops a move coordination process to ensure smooth personnel moves of various departments on campus. Manages these moves for campus groups, including, but not limited to, the coordination of furniture, computer equipment, and personal items. Classroom furniture input on products and renovations (Tech Fee projects), including ADA evaluations.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of the latest instructional pedagogies. Art in State committee participation – participating on the committee for new art in new buildings, and working with the College of Arts and Humanities regarding their existing art collection and the acquisition/installation of new artwork. Creates and/or reviews wayfinding and signage designs.

  • Serves as mentor to Project Manager I.

  • Facilitates training of Project Manager I responsibilities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management, or an Engineering field.

  • 7+ years of experience.

Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
