ROLE of the POSITION

The Project Coordinator will be located at the Office of Economic Development's Black Fire Innovation facility. This role will coordinate business development and intellectual property tasks in collaboration with the Office of Economic Development (OED) and Small Business Development Center at UNLV. This position will assist the Director of Business and Finance with the coordination and maintenance of the university's intellectual property (IP) portfolio including tracking agreements, CRM, disclosures and patents in the IP database; maintaining accurate CRM files for companies and contacts engaged with the licensing of university owned IP; coordination of workshops and educational training opportunities intended to educate the small business, entrepreneurial, and innovator community at UNLV and in Southern Nevada; assistance with financial transactions related to the management of intellectual property, including, but not limited to invoice tracking in the Minuet database; submission for payment in the Workday system; and travel coordination for OED and SBDC staff.  

This Project Coordinator will also assist the Small Business Development Center as training and orientation coordinator (advisors & interns), assist with grant reporting requirements, coordinate access to and manage shared databases and files, provide procurement and travel coordination, serve as liaison for UNLV SBDC director and UNR lead center to provide required forms and documentation to support the continued funding from the Small Business Administration. The Project Coordinator will also assist the UNLV SBDC director with creating reports and reviewing advisor goals.

The Project Coordinator will seek opportunities for OED and SBDC to engage with the internal and external communities in order to increase the number of high impact agreements executed by the Office of Economic Development, Small Business Development Center, and Black Fire Innovation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree is required along with 1-3 years of related professional experience.

KNOWLEDGE

Required

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience utilizing CRM database with ability to track, maintain documents, and download reports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with managing confidential files, with preference for maintenance of legal files (IP or other).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the intellectual property process as it relates to the management of university owned intellectual property.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NSHE businesses processes including Workday.
  • Understanding of NSHE procurement and travel policies

Preferred

  • Preference for individuals who have demonstrated understanding of the small business/startup/entrepreneurial process.     

SKILLS

Required

  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Program and time management skills with the ability to follow-up on assigned tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal people skills with the ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds, including academics, business professionals, small business owners, inventors and startups.
  • Proficiency in use of personal computer and current software applications, including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and email. Spreadsheet development and database management.

Preferred

  • Preference will be provided to individuals who have demonstrated skills in maintaining confidential data in CRM software
