What We Want

The Program Specialist III for Community Engagement, under general supervision, will work with TAMIDS leadership and our growing community to enhance our impact and participation. This position will collaborate with the various stakeholders to improve the reach of the Institute through community engagement, event management, and content development.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Three years of community outreach, communications, and/or marketing experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate and engage with students, researchers, faculty, and administrators

  • Proficient at communicating following best practices and in a professional manner

  • Strong writing and editing skills for social media, web content, presentations, and publications

  • Comfortable with website content/page creation and social media communications

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others in a collaborative team environment

  • Working knowledge of word processing and automated publishing tools

  • Ability to take photographs in support of social media posts, website content, and publications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Creative ideas and innovative approaches to communication, event planning, and community outreach

  • Experience working in STEM-oriented university programs

  • Knowledge of ADA accessibility standards and best practices

  • Knowledge of TAMU communication protocols, policies, and procedures

  • Ability to film and edit content for social media

  • Knowledge of spreadsheet and database applications

Responsibilities

  • Community EngagementAssists with engagement and outreach to the data science community, partners, members, and other interested parties to ensure the TAMIDS’s mission and services are well represented to the community at large. Collaborate with TAMIDS’s program directors, affiliate faculty, and TAMU’s Marketing & Communications and Engineering Communications departments. Design and execute university-wide events, programs, and activities that serve the needs and interests of the TAMIDS community. Cultivate and promote positive relationships with TAMIDS members, stakeholders, and partners. Support outreach to students, researchers, faculty, organizations, partners, and stakeholders to conduct presentations, both in-person and utilizing online platforms. Collaborate with various partners across campus to support university initiatives related to TAMIDS and data science to enhance engagement.

  • Event Management: Coordinates event logistics and communicates with on-campus partners to ensure the successful execution of events and activities. Assists in planning, organizing, implementing, and participating in TAMIDS activities, including seminars, workshops, tutorials, etc. Managing and coordinating invitations and scheduling. Attend TAMIDS events, take pictures, prepare presentations, assist with marketing, and write follow-up materials. Leads the promotion of events or activities using social media platforms and other modes of communication. Write event notifications and recaps for the TAMIDS website and media distribution.

  • Content Development: Research and write story ideas and social media posts highlighting TAMIDS activities and impact. Collaborate with the communications departments across TAMU and with external partners. Create website and social media content and manage social media profiles. Serve as a reviewer and editor for materials related to TAMIDS activities and distributed internally or externally. Reach out to students, researchers, faculty, organizations, partners, and stakeholders to research stories and other content.

  • Supervise Interns and Student Workers: Oversee student interns and workers, including tracking hours, delegating tasks, and conducting performance evaluations. Develop student workers’ workplace professionalism and skills. Clarify performance expectations, set goals, and monitor progress.
