Adler University, Department of Counseling and Integrated Programs (CIP) is seeking qualified candidates to fill the Program Director position for the Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision starting Spring 2024 or later semesters. This is a 12-month, open-rank, and tenure eligible position with administrative and teaching duties reporting to the Department Chair.

The Program Director for the Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision provides thought-leadership to the university while leveraging industry knowledge and best practices to promote the mission and vision of the Department of Counseling and Integrated Programs and the institution. Supports culture development and management efforts.

Candidates must be willing to align with the University’s mission and values in training socially responsible practitioners, engaging communities, and advancing social justice, and freedom and liberation from oppression.

Education/Experience:

Candidates are required to have:

  • A doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program
  • Demonstrated experience in leading assessment effort, and program development and evaluation
  • Demonstrated experience in leading program faculty to be involved in the CACREP accreditation process including writing and supporting the self-study and recording keeping.
  • History of commitment to scholarship and professional activities.
  • Research and publications in peer review journals.
  • Teaching and advising doctoral students.
  • Experience in guiding dissertations.
  • Supervision of practicum/internship students.
  • Experience with the CACREP accreditation process.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Candidates must be eligible for Illinois Counselor licensure.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Administrative duties include:

  • Oversee the operation of the Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral program.
  • Monitor the quality of the program and student experiences.
  • Supervise program faculty and monitor the quality of teaching, advising and mentoring students.
  • Support scholarly initiatives including research and publications for program faculty and students.
  • Monitor students’ dissertation processes.
  • Head the assessment of program effectiveness and student learning outcomes.
  • Manage accreditation and related processes.
  • Train dissertation chairs to assist students to complete the dissertation.
  • Monitor student issues and lead retention efforts of the program.
  • Work with University departments and offices to maintain program functions.
  • Coordinate recruitment efforts and new student orientation with the Admissions and Student Affairs Office.
  • Manage program budget.

Faculty responsibilities include:

  • Teaching
  • Participating in university, department, and program committees and meetings
  • Advising and mentoring students
  • Chairing of student dissertations.

Work Environment (Physical Demands):  The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
