Position Summary
The Program Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Division of Cytotechnology  in the College of Allied Health Professions (CAHP). The Program Director is responsible to provide leadership and administrative oversight to achieve the highest quality program outcomes in education, research, clinical practice and service, thus ensuring continuous program accreditation. The Program Director oversees the development of program strategic priorities; provides curricular oversight; recruits, develops, and evaluates program faculty and staff; provides fiscal management of the program, and develops the program’s agenda for scholarly activity. 
General Administration 
• Develop the strategic plan to guide the education, research, clinical practice, and community service activities of the division, to include plans to acquire resources to achieve the objectives of the plan. 
• In cooperation with the Department Chair and the CAHP Associate Dean for Finance and Administration, provide financial management of the program. 
• Participate in the governance of the CAHP by serving as a member of the CAHP Leadership Council, and represent the program and/or the CAHP on University of Nebraska, or UNMC committees as assigned or elected. 
• Represent the program, the CAHP, and UNMC to the professional community at the local, state, and national levels. 
• Promote the engagement of faculty to serve on various CAHP, UNMC, University of Nebraska, professional or other committees or boards as a mechanism for faculty development and to advance the strategic initiatives of the program. 
• Mentor departmental faculty by developing an annual profile of responsibilities and expectations with accompanying metrics for outcome evaluation, and in cooperation with the Department Chair, perform annual faculty evaluations to determine merit salary increases for departmental faculty. 
• Ensure program and faculty adherence to the policies and procedures, including all compliance requirements, of UNMC and the CAHP
• Participate in faculty recruitment and hiring activities. 
• Perform other position-related duties as directed by the CAHP Dean. 
 
Administration of Educational Program 
• Partner with the CAHP Director of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs to develop and implement public awareness/marketing and student recruitment and admissions processes and activities that optimize student engagement from recruitment through alumni status, and that address workforce preparation for Nebraska and the region. 
• Develop, in conjunction with the strategic direction of the CAHP and UNMC, educationally related activities that provide international opportunities for faculty and student exchange programs. 
• Ensure that the necessary elements, outcomes assessments, processes and documentation are in place to assure compliance with all accreditation standards for the program and organize and manage a team of program faculty to oversee and prepare for accreditation as necessary to ensure continuous accreditation. 
• Oversee the ongoing assessment of the curriculum to ensure that program graduates are prepared for state-of-the-art practice, are responsive to the health needs of the region, state, and nation, and have the competencies necessary to become licensed or certified practitioners. 
• Assume teaching responsibilities in areas of academic, clinical and research expertise for the program and in CAHP interprofessional courses. 
• Facilitate recruitment and engagement activities between the program, other CAHP and UNMC educational programs, and all pipeline admission programs. 
 
Research and Scholarly Activity 
• Develop a research agenda as applicable and engage interdepartmental, intercollegiate and community research partners as necessary. 
• Present research findings pertaining to personal research agenda through presentations at national/international meetings and peer-reviewed publications. 
• Partner with the CAHP Associate Dean for Research Development, oversee the establishment of areas of focused, sustainable research activity within the program, with an emphasis on obtaining extramural support for primary investigators. 
• Develop relationships with potential funding agencies/individuals to support the pilot research efforts of faculty members. 
• Mentor program faculty in the development of grant proposals, manuscripts and conference presentations. 
 
Outreach 
• Consult with the program’s alumni chapter to provide information as requested, create development opportunities, provide marketing and recruitment materials, and promote the bidirectional exchange of information. 
• Develop departmental teaching opportunities as appropriate, and continuing education programming for community professionals to foster their incorporation into departmental activities. 
• Assist in the implementation of CAHP faculty practice opportunities as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
1. Masters degree 
2. Certification as a Cytotechnologist 
3. Minimum of 5 years experience as an active cytotechnologist. 3 years must have been within the past five years 
4. Minimum of 5 years experience engaging in cytotechnology education. 2 years must have been within the past 5 years.)  
Supplemental Qualifications
1. PhD or academic doctorate  
2. Specific Cytotechnology experience at a leading national academic medical center 
3. Evidence of peer-reviewed publications on topics relating to extracorporeal science 
4. Evidence of experience in utilizing technology in education
5. Evidence of national engagement in the advancement of cytotechnology as a profession
6. Evidence of holding at least one position of leadership at a state or national or international cytotechnology society
