Texas A&M University's Department of Anthropology is seeking a Program Coordinator II to support the management and stewardship of archaeological and museum collections. Primary responsibilities include maintaining collection inventories, implementing preservation strategies, overseeing digitization efforts, and integrating emerging technologies to enhance collection management, accessibility, and engagement. The position is responsible for preparing reports, maintaining accurate administrative and collection documentation, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and professional standards. Additional duties include assisting the Director of Museum Studies with the Internship Program, developing and managing public outreach initiatives, coordinating student engagement activities, supporting exhibitions and virtual exhibits, and managing social media content. The Program Coordinator II will also supervise, train, and mentor student employees and interns while performing additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Opportunities to Contribute
Maintain inventory records of all collection items and archival records.
Assess, implement, and document preservation strategies for physical and digital collections, including environmental monitoring, preventive conservation, condition reporting, data management policies, and collaboration with conservators to ensure long-term stewardship.
Oversee digitization initiatives, including scanning, photography, 3D modeling, and the integration of emerging technologies to enhance collection preservation, accessibility, research, and public engagement.
Assist the Director of ARC with accessions, deaccessions, object loans, research requests, and regulatory reporting requirements related to collection management.
Coordinate the Museum Studies Internship program (including MUST 484) and collaborate with the Director of Museum Studies and external partners to develop, prepare for, and support student engagement opportunities, internships, coursework, public events, and outreach activities.
Manage and contribute to the ARC's and MUST's social media presence in support of educational, research, outreach, and public engagement initiatives.
Oversee the development and coordination of collection-based displays, museum exhibitions, and virtual exhibitions showcasing collection highlights, research projects, and student work.
Compile and submit annual reports detailing ARC activities, accomplishments, collections data, research initiatives, and compliance updates.
Organize and manage administrative documentation and records.
Supervise the daily work of Graduate Research Assistants, Student Technicians, and interns, including the development, maintenance, and delivery of training materials and instruction.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
4 years of related experience.
A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:
Master’s degree in museum studies or Anthropology/Archaeology.
Knowledge of museum and archaeological curation.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Knowledge of digitization processes and digital preservation for museum collections.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write interpretive content, policy documents, and professional correspondence.
Ability to train and mentor students or interns in museum practices.
Understanding and ability to follow Federal and State policy on collections management and cultural heritage compliance.
Extensive knowledge of museum and archaeological curation and ability to manage, preserve, and interpret collections.
Knowledge of emerging technologies in museums, digitization, digital asset management systems, and virtual exhibition platforms.
Familiarity with social media strategies for museums, including content creation and audience engagement to promote collections, exhibitions, and educational programs.
Strong collaboration skills with academic, institutional, and community partners.
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
