Program Coordinator, Gender & Sexuality Resource Center

The Program Coordinator of the Gender & Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC), with a focus on mentorship, serves as a resource for all members of the University community on issues of gender and sexuality, and works collaboratively with other GSRC staff to support the mission and function of the Center. The Program Coordinator provides extensive programming, outreach and education on campus, while also providing one-on-one and group support for students.

 

The Program Coordinator creates and maintains mentorship programs for the GSRC, including Q'nnections and Drag University; takes the lead on programming that center the experiences of LGBTQIA+ and women/fem students and communities; serves as a resource for student groups; works with student groups to cosponsor programs; oversees student support groups; schedules and maintains regularly occurring events; conducts outreach to speakers and workshop presenters; works with campus partners to cosponsor events; maintains a calendar of events and scheduling; advertises and promotes events; and keeps the GSRC website up to date.

 

The largest portions of the job are responsibility for the CGS’s robust and comprehensive mentorship and programming portfolios, from development through execution. The next significant roles of the job are managing the GSRC's affinity groups and taking the lead on website maintenance. This position will also involve student support, committee work, professional development, and other duties as assigned.

 

The GSRC is also hiring for a Program Coordinator (2024-18537) with a focus on management, who will oversee intern supervision and management of the physical space of the GSRC.



-One of the largest aspects of this job is working with the other GSRC program coordinator to manage the GSRC's large portfolio of programs from inception through delivery and assessment afterwards. This includes, but is not limited to: taking care of all details for each event (i.e. room reservations, contacting presenters, ordering food, setting up and cleaning up after events, negotiating with vendors/agents regarding contracts and payments, etc.), developing publicity and program materials, evaluation of programs, assist the director and associate director in conducting programmatic need assessments and strategic planning. This includes working collaboratively with GSRC staff to develop the programming for the year, working with colleagues across campus and community partners on joint programmatic initiatives, and physically creating a printed and online calendar each semester. Specific programs that this role will oversee include Lavender Graduation, Women and Fem Graduation, and the GSRC's annual drag show.

 

-The Program Coordinator oversees all aspects of the GSRC's mentorship programs. This includes reimagining Q’nnections (the LGBTQIA+ mentorship program), supporting Drag University, and developing new mentorship programs for women/fem students, QTBIPOC students, and other groups as needed. (mentorship program).

 

-The Program Coordinator advises the GSRC's affiliated student groups, including Ace/Aro Space, Gender Group, and Out in STEM. The Program Coordinator meets regularly with the student facilitators of these groups, and help develop their leadership skills. There will also be the opportunity to co-facilitate certain support and discussion groups.

 

-The Program coordinator is in charge of keeping the GSRC website up to date, and will work to make sure that current and incoming students are able to easily find resources, events, and contact information for GSRC staff.

 

-Meets with students one-on-one and in groups to offer support (themes include: identity exploration, coming out, transitioning, family, relationships, discrimination, and mental health topics). Refers students to resources across campus as needed. Maintains regular relationships with individual students and student groups to understand campus climate.

 

-Collaborates with key office partners (i.e., Carl A. Fields Center, SHARE Office, University Health Services [UHS}, Office of Disability Services, Office of the Dean for Undergraduate Students, ODOC, Human Resources {Ally Project}, McGraw Center, etc.) to maintain programmatic and campus relationships; Serves on committees to provide input about the experiences of LGBTQIA+ and women/femme students; Stays up to date on literature, language shifts, and best practices around supporting LGBTQIA+ and women/femme students; Contributes to the overall mission of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion through supporting training and orientation initiatives; and other duties as assigned.



Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Experience in a related role
  • Knowledge of sexual orientation and gender identity and issues of concern related to women/fem and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual identities.
  • Significant knowledge of intersectionality, and the ways that gender and sexual identities are impacted by race, religion, disability, etc.
  • Experience working with mentorship programs
  • Demonstrated ability and strong interpersonal skills to work in a social justice-oriented office with individuals and groups with a wide array of backgrounds, identities, life experiences and communication styles
  • Skill to pay close attention to detail and prioritize work load with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to juggle many different projects simultaneously, with consistent accuracy, follow-through, and timely

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Educational background in college student personnel, higher education administration, social work, counseling, sexuality and gender studies, or other related fields
  • Professional experience working in social justice education, including experience in the areas of race, ethnicity, nationality, class, disability, religion, sexuality, and gender
  • Experience working with college students in a university setting
  • Experience with creative educational program development, including program planning, implementation, and assessment
