Position Summary/Purpose of Position: | This position will report to the Director of the University of Maryland Art Gallery and support the Art Gallery, The Driskell Center, and additional non-traditional gallery spaces on campus. The Preparator is responsible for the overall safe and efficient internal movement, housing, and installation of collections and loan objects. This position is also responsible for maintaining professional museum standards of care, maintaining permanent collections and exhibition areas through systematic and routine cleaning, monitoring the condition of works in storage and on exhibition, performing annual inventories of collections, and assisting with maintaining lighting in exhibitions areas at the Art Gallery and the Driskell Center. In addition, the Preparator oversees outside contract art handlers on special projects with permanent collections and exhibitions (internal and external). An essential aspect of this position involves working with and mentoring student employees, both at the Graduate and Undergraduate levels, to give them practical ‘hands-on’ experience in the realms of art handling, collections management, and formal exhibition presentation. |

Minimum Qualifications: | EDUCATION: Bachelor of Arts degree in Art, Art History, Studio Art, Museum Studies, or a closely related program from an accredited college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. EXPERIENCE: 5 years of related experience within a professional arts or historical organization that includes, handling, installing, and mounting a variety of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art objects. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

Preferences: | Basic electrical and/or woodworking skills are a plus. |
Additional Certifications: | Valid driver’s license. |
Additional Information: | Salary: $52,000-$70,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidates must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the USA. No visa sponsorship is offered for this position. The University also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 22 Days Annual Leave; 15 Days Sick Leave; 3 Days Personal Leave; 15 Paid Holidays; Tuition Remission; Health, Dental, Vision and Prescription coverage. This is an in-person position. Telework may be available up to two (2) days per week, subject to approval.
