Departmental Objective
In support of Christopher Newport University’s mission, the mission of CNU Dining Services is to provide CNU students with the highest quality in food and dining experiences. Purpose of the Position
Under the general direction of the cook staff, this position may perform production duties such as baking, roasting, frying, etc. Other duties may include stocking, dish room operation, trash removal and mopping.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Related to Position
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends
  • Ability to read and comprehend recipes, lists, and production needs
  • Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures
  • Ability to work in congested work areas and areas where wet processed are used
  • Ability to wear protective footwear
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. on a fairly continuous basis
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required
Education: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent


Experience:
 
  • Experience in a food service industry.

Conditions of Employment
This is an HOURLY position and does NOT entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits and is limited to 1500 hours in a 365-day period;
Selected candidate will be required to attend a 2-Day New Employee Orientation Program;
Selected candidate must have the ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends;
Selected candidate must have the ability to work in extreme temperatures;
Selected candidate must have the ability to lift at least 50 lbs. on a fairly continuous basis.
