What we want

The Postdoctoral Research Associate is responsible for leading a new project to help determine the molecular mechanisms underlying C. difficile -host interactions. The successful applicant requires knowledge in cellular biology, animal model, vaccine development, and will employ diverse tools and techniques including gene tools for genetic manipulation, in vitro fluorescence imaging, histology, electron microscopy.

  • Appropriate PhD in Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology or related field. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational, written or oral communications skills

  • Detail-oriented, independent, and with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Other Requirements, Requests or Other Factors:

  • Department recommends a cover letter, resume and the contact information from three professional references be attached with application.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience working with mice models of infectious disease; preferentially C. difficile infectious mouse model and vaccine development; experience with antigen display on B. subtilis spore surface.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Technical expertise in protein over-expression and purification, molecular biology procedures such as DNA extraction, digestion, ligation and transformation in E. coli and B. subtilis, fluorescence imaging and Caco-2 cell line handling including infection, adherence and internalization of bacterial spores.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform mouse infection assay, including C. difficile infection model, mice immunization and C. difficile infection progression analysis in immunized mice

  • Perform molecular biology technics and microbiological experiments;

  • Perform genetic manipulation;

  • Collect, record and maintain experimental/research data: prepare manuscripts for publication of research results.

  • Write drafts of manuscript and grant writing.

  • Maintaining research equipment, ordering supplies, etc

  • Supervise undergraduate researchers

  • Performs other duties as assigned
