About the Opportunity

SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be an active member of the Liao Lab at Northeastern University. Research in the Liao laboratory combines single-molecule imaging, genetic manipulation, whole-cell super-resolution microscopy, machine learning, and physical modeling to understand how neuron structures and functions emerge from the elementary molecular processes, under both normal development and pathological stresses. The selected candidate will benefit from an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment at Northeastern and the supportive atmosphere of a new lab.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs basic research to understand molecular mechanisms of neuron structures and function, primarily using Drosophila  molecular genetics and cell biology and quantitative imaging. 

  • Assists in initiating, executing, and completing research.

  • Assists PI in the interpretation and publication of results and grants. 

  • Assist in training and supervising undergraduates/graduates in a laboratory setting.

  • Fosters a safe, inclusive, welcoming, and collaborative environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. or equivalent required in Biophysics, Biology, or related field. Senior doctoral students (4th year +) will be considered and are encouraged to apply.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, attention to details, as well as training in research methodology and quantitative data analysis are essential to the successful candidate.

The candidates should have a strong background in Drosophila molecular genetics or cell biology. Experience with neuronal cytoskeleton , optogenetics, and quantitative imaging are a plus.
