Position Description:

Physics Department at Harvard University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of biophysics, biochemistry and biology. The successful applicant will work in Prof. Mara Prentiss' group at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA, performing experimental studies of RecA family protein mediated homologous recombination in collaboration with groups in the Biology Department at Northeastern University and the IBPC in Paris.

The collaboration uses a multi-disciplinary approach to understand how double strand breaks are repaired, and how that repair process provides insight into self-assembling systems. The postdoctoral scholar will carry out research related to DNA protein interactions monitored using bulk and single molecule techniques. The appointment duration is up to three years, with reappointment contingent upon funding and research collaboration.

Applications should be submitted to Barbara Drauschke, and consist of a letter of application, CV, and a statement of research interest. Applicants should also send a statement of the applicant's previous or proposed efforts to improve diversity in science. Also required are three letters of recommendation from senior scientists who know your work.

Application review will begin on the 2nd of February and continue until the position is filled. The successful candidate could start work as early as March 2021, though the start date is negotiable and subject to change based on the ongoing COVID pandemic. Candidates are encouraged to contact Prof. Prentiss to discuss any special circumstances they may be facing in this regard.

Basic Qualifications:

Candidates should have basic training in molecular and cellular biology and biochemistry techniques, and experience in designing and executing in vitro and in vivo experiments. The appointment is contingent upon completion of a Ph.D.

Additional Qualifications:

Candidates with experience performing bacterial culture for protein expression and cloning, protein purification using chromatography systems, protein characterization using SDS-PAGE, UV-Vis., and fluorescence spectroscopy, as well as running in vitro and cellular assays to evaluate the activity of proteins will be preferred in the selection process.
