Title | Postdoctoral Fellow in Bioengineering (Stem Cell Research) |

School | Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences |
Department/Area | Bioengineering |
Position Description | The Liu group at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) at Harvard is looking for a well-qualified and energetic postdoctoral fellow working on developing and applying bioelectronics and spatial-omics tools to understand human stem cell-derived organoid development and maturation for stem cell therapy. We are developing a cyborg organoid technique, which implanted and distributed stretchable nanoelectronics across entire organoid bodies through 2D-to-3D organogenesis triggered by cell-cell interactions, enabling long-term stable, organoid-wide, 3D multimodal recordings at single-cell resolution throughout stem cell and tissue development and maturation with minimal impact on growth and differentiation (Nano Letters 2019 and Advanced Materials 2022). We are also combining cyborg organoids with tissue clearing and in situ single-cell RNA sequencing, which can integrate a cell’s electrical activity recording with its gene expression, assessing the functional and transcriptional maturation of the human cardiac, brain, and pancreatic organoids for stem cell therapy. This postdoctoral position will provide an exciting opportunity to develop new experimental and computational methods to integrate bioelectronics with spatial-omics in a vibrant and interdisciplinary environment and collaborate with team members from diverse backgrounds (chemistry, biophysics, genomics and neuroscience, electrical engineering and computer science, and bioengineering). Beyond our lab, this position will also offer collaboration opportunities with other experimental and computational teams (genomics, data science, machine learning) at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and Harvard Stem Cell Institute. We emphasize research training and career development for all lab members, and the candidate will have the chance to interact with the broader community at Harvard, MIT, the Broad Institute and the Harvard-affiliated hospitals across Boston. |
Basic Qualifications | A PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering, or Biology |
Additional Qualifications | Significant pluripotent stem cell culture experience. Extensive experience in stem cell 3D culture and differentiation (neurons, cardiomyocytes, or pancreatic beta cells). Experience in single-cell RNA sequencing, bioimaging, electrophysiology or gene editing. A strong quantitative analysis background. Self-motivated, creative, persistent, responsible, good analytical and problem-solving skills. Candidate with ONE or MORE of the following areas will be given priority: - Single-cell genomics and/or transcriptomics - Electrophysiology and neuroscience - Bioimaging |
Special Instructions | Cover letter CV 3 references 3 representative papers Any listing of a public code repository (e.g. Github) SEAS is dedicated to building a diverse and welcoming community, and we strongly encourage applications from historically underrepresented groups. |
