The Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) Research Group at the Pathology Department at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine is seeking applicants for the position of Post-doctoral candidate. The position will involve working on projects aim to identify new diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers of AD because preventative and therapeutic strategies depend on access to reliable biomarkers for early detection. AD is characterized by dysregulated neural gene expression triggered by combinations of genetic and environmental risk factors which alter the expression of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) including long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs. The position will involve studying ncRNAs expression in human postmortem brain tissue samples in combination with functional studies in experimental models.

  • Required : PhD in neuroscience, neurobiology or a related scientific field is required.
  • Experience with some of the following is expected:
    • Immunohistochemistry
    • Basic molecular assay (RNA isolation, qPCR)
    • Tissue culture

CORE DUTIES IN DETAILS:

  • Prepare and section post-mortem human cortex
  • Perform immune-fluorescence and histological staining of section for laser-capture microdissection (LCM) of cortical cells
  • Extract RNA from LCM-obtained cells
  • Perform in vitro functional studies of ncRNAs biomarker candidates in neuronal and glial cells differentiated from human induced pluripotent stem cell (hIPSC)
