The Lynch Laboratory in the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University is searching for a Postdoctoral Associate.
This postdoctoral position is to support work focused on the development of a cyber-physical system (CPS) framework for monitoring and tracking the location, activity, performance, and health of people working in smart environments. The position will focus on the development of wearable sensing platforms to be worn by human subjects integrated within the broader CPS framework with sensor data processed to extract features for real-time processing. The work will include integration of real-time data with computational services embedded the CPS framework running data-driven models that predict the interaction of people with their environments.
Two applications are being explored including warfighters using wearable sensors within highly dynamic operational environments to track their performance and health. The second focuses on the public interacting with traditional and smart infrastructure systems including transportation and social infrastructure systems.
Lab Description: Successful candidates will be joining Duke’s Laboratory for Intelligent Systems Technology (LIST) led by Prof. Jerome P. Lynch. LIST aims to convert traditional civil infrastructure into intelligent and reactive systems through the integration of sensing, computing and actuation technologies. Specifically, the lab is at the forefront of developing CPS solutions to enhance the performance and resilience of operational infrastructure systems and utilizes real-world systems for full-scale solution validation.
Qualifications: • PhD in engineering discipline (preferably in civil engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, or equivalent) • Expertise in sensor development, data collection, data processing, and machine learning algorithms • Candidate has capacity to comply with the federally mandated requirements of U.S. export control laws and U.S. DOD requirements for accessing facilities and personnel.
