Dr Ting Yang

Dr. Yang’s lab at Duke Department of Medicine has an NIH/NIDDK-funded position for a postdoctoral fellow to study the mechanisms underlying hypertension pathogenesis and hypertension-associated end-organ damage. 

We seek a highly motivated individual to address how the COX2-prostaglandin-EP receptor signaling contributes to blood pressure regulation, leveraging various techniques, including advanced genomic, animal models, and innovative therapies. The team is highly collaborative and integrated with multiple cores (within Duke) and collaborators in other US institutions.

Work Performed

  • Confer with the principal investigator in developing plans for research projects.
  • Perform experiments independently using cells and animal models.
  • Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare analyses of experimental results to draw appropriate conclusions about the experimental findings.
  • Write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Prepare presentations for research conferences, and prepare data for grant submission.
  • Learn how to write fellowship grants.
  • Train new personnel in the lab and supervise the work of lower-level employees.

Required Qualifications

A Ph.D. is required with training in immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, and/or a related field. Experience with cell culture, mouse models, and biochemistry/molecular biology is required. Familiarity with gene sequencing techniques/data analysis is preferred.

Education

Min Degree Requirements:  Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g. Sc.D., M.D., D.V.M.).  Should be used for post-doctoral fellows if the candidate has completed all of the requirements for a degree, but the degree has not been formally conferred; the candidate may present evidence of completion of the degree requirements, together with a statement documenting the date on which the degree is to be conferred.


Experience

Other Credential/Experiential Requirements:  The incumbent must be a true post-doctoral fellow registered with the Post Doc Office and per the following requirements:

  • The term of this appointment is limited (5 years with a possible extension for an additional year)
  • The appointment involves substantially full-time research or scholarship, which may include teaching responsibilities.
  • The appointment is viewed as preparatory for a full time academic or research career.
  • The appointment is not part of a clinical research training program, unless research training under the supervision of a senior mentor is a primary purpose of the appointment.
  • The appointee works under the supervision of a scholar or a department at Duke University.
  • The appointee has the freedom, and is expected to publish the results of his or her research or scholarship during the period of the appointment.
