Job Summary:

The Geospatial Analysis Lab (GsAL) at the University of San Francisco is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher who specializes in Climate and Wildfire Resilience. In this position, you will work under the guidance of Professor David Saah, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, utilize advanced geospatial analytics, and contribute to state and national efforts in wildfire resilience. Your primary focus will be on projects that involve big data and innovative technologies for landscape management and risk assessment to develop science-based solutions for climate and wildfire challenges.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leading the analysis and interpretation of data from satellite imagery, remote sensing, and other geospatial sources to identify trends and insights related to climate and wildfire resilience.

  • Publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at national and international conferences to disseminate knowledge and advancements in the field.

  • Participating in grant writing and funding proposal development to secure financial support for ongoing and future research projects.

  • Providing mentorship and guidance to graduate and undergraduate students working on related research projects within the Geospatial Analysis Lab (GsAL).

  • Engaging with community and industry partners to translate research findings into actionable climate and wildfire preparedness strategies.

  • Staying updated on the latest geospatial technologies and methodologies to enhance research capabilities and outcomes.

  • Contributing to developing open science resources and tools to build green markets and promote environmental sustainability.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants for this role must have a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Fire Ecology, Natural Resource Management, Geography, or a closely related field by Fall 2024. This is not a tenure-track position and is for one-year, renewable based on funding availability. Candidates must possess a strong equity lens, cultural humility, and exhibit the capacity to work efficiently in a diverse environment. They should also be able to contribute to interdisciplinary efforts and come up with innovative approaches to address climate and wildfire resilience.
