Postdoctoral Fellow (Souma Lab)

A funded opportunity for a postdoctoral scientist is available in the laboratory of Dr. Tomokazu Souma in the Division of Nephrology at Duke University School of Medicine.

The Souma lab investigates molecular mechanisms underlying maladaptive renal repair after acute kidney injury. We seek to understand the genetic basis of renal repair/regeneration at a single-cell level. Our ultimate goal is to harness cellular stress adaptive pathways for therapeutic uses to prevent kidney disease progression in patients. 

The ideal candidate will have a PhD or MD/PhD in biomedical sciences with a record of research productivity. Strong background in one or more of the following areas is preferred; mouse genetics, computational biology, genome-editing techniques, and stem cell biology.  This position offers a great opportunity to learn and apply skills in mouse genetics, single-cell biology, computational analyses, and disease modeling of kidney diseases. Postdoctoral fellow will work in a collegial, collaborative, and cutting-edge research environment where career development is strongly emphasized. 

The duties of the successful candidate will include designing experimental plans with PI, performing phenotypic and molecular analyses of transgenic animals, molecular clonings, cell culture assays, and computational analyses of single-cell transcriptomic datasets under the supervision/guidance of PI and computational biologists.
