Post Award Finance Specialist III

The Opportunity:

The Post Award Finance Specialist III performs post-award sponsored program functions associated with the post-award administration of sponsored awards. This position will work independently with minimal supervision in the management of sponsored awards from award setup through the administrative closeout of the award. Reports to the Contracts and Grants Accountant III.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently analyze project pre-/post-expenditures and cost transfers to ensure costs are allowable, allocable, reasonable, and consistently handled as directed by 2 CFR 200 and other Federal agency regulations. Review statement of work and other contract and grant requirements for projects. Project sponsors may be federal, state, county, city, or other municipality governments; hospitals; private industry partners, non-profit organizations, foundations, etc.

  • Independently interpret and Implement post-award policies and financial compliance regarding sponsored research projects as required by federal regulations in 2 CFR 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles and Audit Requirements, sponsor terms and conditions, State of Florida statutes, and University of Central Florida policies.

  • Act as OR liaison to work with institute, center, or department administrators and PIs on corrective action, as needed, for allowability, consistency, allocability, and reasonableness-- this may also include the removal of charges incurred after the project end date such as payroll, goods or services not ordered during the performance period, etc.

  • Review award documents to extrapolate critical information to perform transactions in OR's systems for new awards, modifications, extensions, budget transfers, etc.

  • Review budget requests and selected financial transactions for Asset Builds and other related contract and grant accounts; prepare and coordinate financial and other reports as required.

  • Ensure sub-award obligations are properly documented, invoices are reviewed for accuracy, reconciled, approved, and paid timely.

  • Manage the administrative closeout activities and coordinate with Grants Accounting to ensure the timely closeout and related closeout reporting of research projects.

  • Collaborate with OR pre-award and college administrators, as needed, to identify and provide solutions for proposal discrepancies, budgetary modifications, and award terms and conditions modifications.

  • Develop and update business process documentation. Regularly evaluate business processes and make recommendations that both meet the needs of the university and achieve the most efficient use of resources.

  • Participate in the coordination of training and demonstrations to staff, investigators, and departmental administrators on post-award issues.

  • Serve as a mentor to colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Accounting or Business degree.

  • Master’s degree.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and critical analysis abilities.

  • Experience with research administration in a higher education environment.

  • Knowledge of federal rules and regulations relating to research grant and/or contract activity, with a specific understanding of post-award management processes.

  • Experience using spreadsheets, databases, and web-based database applications for research and grants-related management. Workday and Huron Research Suites are a plus.
