Working Title Police Officer
Brief Summary of Job Description
The University of Nebraska Kearney Police Department (UNKPD) is an armed professional law enforcement agency, manned by State of Nebraska Certified Police Officers sworn and empowered through the State of Nebraska. UNK Police Officers patrol campus and the surrounding community respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, and enforce laws, including Nebraska motor vehicle laws, issue citations or warnings and complete necessary reports. Patrol campus to provide safety and security to all those on the UNK campus. Assist other law enforcement agencies and any other duties as assigned.
Job Duties
Enforce all state laws, city code and UNK Regulations. Respond to criminal, civil and medical incidents. Complete investigations on each incident arresting suspects when needed and completing the necessary paperwork. Respond to and investigate traffic accidents completing necessary paperwork. Enforcing Nebraska motor vehicle laws, issue citations or warnings and completing necessary reports. Patrol campus to provide safety and security to all those on the UNK campus. Complete building checks which include making sure all doors are secure and individuals in the buildings are authorized to be there. Provide security at events held on the UNK campus. Respond to fire alarms, burglar alarms and send alert notifications per policy. Enforce all UNK parking regulations. Provide safety programs to students, faculty and staff. Lock/Unlock buildings. Admit authorized personnel into buildings when necessary. Maintenance of the Police and Parking Services vehicles. Assist other law enforcement agencies and any other duties as assigned. Overtime opportunities through on campus activities and athletic events. In state and out of state trainings are encouraged and welcome at UNK PD.

Required Qualifications
High School education or GED. Must meet the physical and all admittance requirements for acceptance and completion of the Nebraska Law Enforcement training program. 
Must be 21 years of age. Requires a valid driver’s license and good driving record. 
Preferred Qualifications
Hold a valid Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification.
College degree and experience in related field.

Schedule Day, Night and evening shifts (mostly 10hr shifts). Holiday and weekends included. Possible overtime due to campus events.
