The Kearney campus, which will be an integrated part of a single medical school, housed in Omaha, Nebraska is scheduled to matriculate its first entering class in August 2026. The Regional Associate Dean will collaborate with COM leadership at the Omaha campus, as well as administration, faculty, and staff of other health professions based at the HSEC, UNK Leadership and Nebraska University (NU) system leadership to meet the COM’s goal of delivering the Training the Physicians of Tomorrow (TPT) curriculum to medical students in central Nebraska. We seek a leader with experience in successful innovation and improvement in medical education and the necessary energy, administrative and personal skills needed to lead this new venture. The Regional Associate Dean will foster ongoing relationships between the stakeholders throughout greater Nebraska, including those at the governmental, philanthropic, community, and health system levels, in concert with COM faculty, administration, and current and potential future students to develop premier academic opportunities.
Primary responsibilities of the Regional Associate Dean include:
  • Facilitate the delivery of the TPT curriculum at the HSEC under the oversight of the COM Curriculum Committee and Associate Dean for Medical Education in close collaboration with the Office of Medical Education. Assist the Dean of the COM in developing a strategy to expand the College’s educational programs in greater Nebraska, including both undergraduate and graduate medical education.
  • Work with greater Nebraska hospitals, health systems, physicians, and leadership, as well as the COM academic departments and senior leadership, to identify and recruit foundational science and physician faculty to teach at the HSEC.
  • Serve as liaison for the COM to the community, nourishing relationships between the COM and its stakeholders.
  • Assist the Senior Associate Dean for Administration and Director of Finance in managing the relevant portions of the COM’s budget as it applies to programs at the HSEC.
  • Assist the Associate Dean for Medical Education to meet all relevant portions of LCME accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in COM leadership committees and standing committees as assigned.
  • Represent the COM in pertinent regional and national professional associations.
  • Work with current and potential medical students to ensure their active involvement in COM programs and activities in alignment with those taking place at the Omaha campus.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Admissions and Student Affairs, Assistant Deans, and staff of the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs on student recruitment efforts and management of student affairs issues.
  • Work to establish and promote an inclusive culture compatible with the mission of UNMC and the COM.
  • Work with communities, preceptors, and affiliated health systems to monitor and encourage a healthy and productive clinical learning environment for students.
  • Advance and support the research mission of the COM and encourage student involvement in research and productivity.
  • Develop programs and processes to attract and retain the best students for the missions of the COM and needs of rural Nebraska.
  • Collaborate with the deans of other UNMC and UNK colleges to develop and support interdisciplinary programs.
  • Support and foster the development of continuing education programs for HSEC faculty and health care providers in the region in collaboration with the Center for Continuing Education
  • Create and support an inclusive working and learning environment that ensures all faculty, staff, and students are treated with dignity and respect.
  • Ensure COM faculty, students, and staff adhere to COM, UNMC, and NU policies and requirements related to compliance.
  • Assist in the development of philanthropic program development to support the Regional Campus.
  • Be visible and actively involved in the community of Kearney and others in central Nebraska.
