Working hours: 

  • Every other weekend (Saturday & Sunday) 

General Description of the Job Class

Perform, under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, a variety of technical duties related to drug distribution, purchasing, inventory management, and sterile product preparation including Hazardous and Non-Hazardous medications.

Work Performed

  • Requires knowledge of Federal, State and required regulatory agency standards related to pharmacy cognitive and technical knowledge regarding computer systems and equipment being used. Involves discretion and independent action within prescribed limits.

  • Works closely with other technicians, pharmacists and clinical staff to fill prescribed medication orders. Help provide support to Anesthesia and Surgical Staff and the Hematologic Malignancy and Cellular Therapy clinic nurses and physicians.

  • Inventory management of controlled and non-controlled medications. This includes ordering medications and supplies, identifying and replacing outdated and unusable drugs. Stock clinic and operating room automated dispensing machines and Anesthesia work stations.

  • Prepare sterile intravenous solutions including hazardous preparations, chemotherapy and home infusions.

  • Maintain logs, records and other documentation. Monitor assigned quality improvement indicators or individual or departmental performance.

  • Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Pharmacy Tech I: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program. or Acceptance into pharmacy school. or High school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or health care related experience.

  • Pharmacy Tech II: High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited pharmacy technician-training program. or Acceptance into pharmacy school. or High school diploma or equivalent and one year of pharmacy or health care related experience.

Experience

  • Pharmacy Tech I: N/A

  • Pharmacy Tech II: Minimum of one years related experience.

Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

  • Pharmacy Tech I: Must be registered with the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy within the first 180 days.

  • Pharmacy Tech II: North Carolina Board of Pharmacy registration is required. Pharmacy Technician certification is required from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT).
