Position Summary
This early career Health Sciences Librarian position provides client-centered information, education, and research services using a variety of methods and technologies; responds to a range of search requests in a variety of health subject areas; and works with colleagues to advise clients on information sources, data management, scholarly communications, and emerging library services. They are part of a team of liaison librarians who support the University’s schools of dentistry, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and public health and clinical departments in UNC Medical Center. 
 
Principal responsibilities include: 
* Provides instruction through workshops, course sessions, and online modules on topics such as database searching, scholarly publishing, reference management, and literature reviews. 
* Develops and maintains asynchronous resources including library guides for various user groups including users on campus, state of North Carolina, and affiliated with UNC Global sites. 
* Conducts database searches and literature reviews for clients from health disciplines such as dentistry, medicine (including health sciences), nursing, pharmacy, public health, and clinical departments in UNC medical center. 
* Participates with other librarians and staff in providing information services through individual and small group consultations. 
* Assists clients to effectively select and use information tools and resources, such as helping people manage research results and information assets for effective use. 
* Collaborates with faculty to integrate critical thinking, critical appraisal of the literature, and information and digital literacy at key junctures throughout the curricula for on campus and distance learners. 
* Participates in research teams to maximize scholarly quality and productivity and assists faculty in disseminating research and information to serve the schools’ and university’s missions. 
* Pursues professional development, professional service activities, and scholarship as guided by the standards of the Library’s Committee on Appointments and Promotions. 
* Represents the Library in University-wide activities and in other venues, participates in other Library activities in support of our mission, and serves the university community as needed. 
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement to include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires the Masters in Library Science (MLS) degree (or foreign degree equivalent). In specialized libraries, may substitute an advanced degree in the field of specialization (e.g., legal degree for a law library, or a history degree for a special historical collection within the library setting).
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library or information science or related advanced degree. 
Experience conducting literature searching in health subject areas. 
Demonstrated knowledge of health sciences information resources and scholarly communication practices. 
Ability to work independently and excel in a dynamic, collaborative, team-based environment. 
Evidence of project, priority, and time management skills. 
Excellent oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse user communities, including students, faculty, researchers, colleagues, and community members.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Education or work experience in a health discipline. 
One or more years’ experience working in an academic, hospital, or health sciences library. 
Demonstrated experience designing and teaching adult learners using scalable, interactive methods, both one-on-one and in groups, online and face-to-face. 
Evidence of intellectual curiosity, and the ability to learn quickly and succeed in a mission-driven and fast-paced environment. 
Proficiency with at least one reference management tool (e.g., EndNote). 
Conversant with educational competency requirements in health professions and assessment of competencies. 
Conversant or experience with interprofessional education and practice. 
Conversant with scholarly communication methods such as systematic reviews, practice guidelines, evidence synthesis or consensus statements.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
