The Wexner Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of care our patients receive. The Patient Care Associate (PCA) functions as an integral member of the perioperative care team within the Department of Perioperative Services, whose members reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team consisting of the Patient Care Coordinator ? Registered Nurse (PCC-RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA), Student Nursing Assistant (SNA), and Information Associate provides patient care and supportive services that are directed toward achievement of quality patient care outcomes, improvement of service levels, reduction of length of hospitalization and reduction of costs.The Extended Recovery Unit provides phase II and phase III postoperative care to surgical patients requiring a hospital stay of less than 24 hours. This unit is staffed from 7:00am Monday until 7:30pm Saturday.Position SummaryThe Patient Care Associate (PCA) is responsible for providing a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities as supervised and directed by the Registered Nurse. Care is provided in collaboration with the patient, family, and other members of the perioperative care team. Overall responsibilities are to assist the team in meeting patient care needs.
Required QualificationsHigh school graduate or GED certification required. One year of experience as a hospital aide, EMT certification, completion of military corpsman training program with direct patient care experience required or successful completion of PCA training course required. Experience in an acute care environment preferred.
