Salary  Range
Without valid CDL - $19.00 (non-negotiable).
With valid CDL - $20.00 (non-negotiable).
Annual average will be $19,760 - $20,800.
Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications.

Summary
As part of the UCCS Parking and Transportation Services Department, you will be joining an exceptional work environment not often found in other driving positions while serving a campus route that is second to none. The on-demand shuttle driver primarily responds to planned requests for off campus bus charters within approximately 100 miles of UCCS and may also receive planned or reactive requests to fill open campus routes and charters when you are available. This position requires you to have, and maintain, a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger and airbrake endorsements.
This position is subject to random driving record checks and random alcohol and drug screenings throughout the entire employment period. This is an on-demand part-time position and is not eligible to receive all the benefits provided under the University of Colorado benefits programs. This position is eligible for sick and vacation time based on the actual hours worked. The campus normally operates Monday to Friday, 6am – 11pm, during the fall, spring, and summer semesters, or approximately 40 weeks per year, with a 3-4 week break between semesters. Bus charters may also be requested by various teams and organizations throughout the year, including the semester breaks and on weekends that require driver support and offer the opportunity for additional work hours to interesting destinations. This position is subject to random driving record checks and random alcohol and drug screenings throughout the entire employment period.
Essential Functions
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: 
  • Provide safe dependable transportation, primarily on campus, and occasionally off campus. 
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections with a high degree of accuracy and safety. 
  • Maintain proper route schedules, times, passenger counts, and other job-related paperwork. 
  • Perform refueling, fluid checks, bus sweeping and cleaning, and vehicle safety inspections. 
  • Demonstrate good judgment on routes to manage passenger, vehicle, and traffic conditions. 
  • Safely assist loading, unloading, and securing disabled passengers in a professional manner. 
  • Willingness to cover shifts when other drivers are sick or unable to work. 
  • Willingness to drive bus charters for athletic teams and other organizations when necessary. 
  • Willingness to assist with occasional driver training on various campus vehicles. 
  • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts when necessary, including days, nights, and weekends. 
  • There are no logs or overnight trips. 
  • Other assigned duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. 
  • Possess a valid Colorado Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class C or higher, with passenger endorsement. 
  • Possess a valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate. 
  • Experience operating passenger shuttles that require a CDL License. 
  • Be at least 18 years old. 
  • Successfully pass both a preemployment background check and drug screening. 
  • Availability to attend two mandatory training sessions each year in January and August.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to do minor vehicle tasks such as replacing headlights and tail lamps. 
  • Ability to assist with office duties such as filing paperwork or computer data entry. 
  • Basic mechanical skills and/or the ability to perform simple or routine repairs on vehicles, equipment, and grounds, such as replacing switches, repairing wires, testing equipment operation, etc.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. Employees are occasionally required to stand, walk, grasp, pull, and step up. Tasks may involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, and feeling; requires near acuity (clarity of vision at 20 inches or less) and far acuity (clarity of vision at 20 feet or more), depth perception, and field of vision. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. 

Tentative Search Timeline:
