Position Summary and Duties
  • Provide logistical support to the Assistant Director of Recreation and Wellness, Outdoor Adventures that will include both office work as well as days in the field.
  • Assist with the supervision of 30 volunteer trip leaders and 25 paid student employees working with Outdoor Adventures and the Indoor Rockwall.
  • Continually help to improve and facilitate justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion based programming and content 
  • Provide assistance with the marketing of all outdoor programming, including print materials, on campus and digital advertisement, and social media.
  • Participate in outdoor skills trainings with the opportunity to co-lead trainings and trips depending on experience and skill level.
  • Prepare professional development topics for weekly student meetings in collaboration with Assistant Director
  • Collaborate on projects as needed with Assistant Director
  • Represent the department at various orientations and information fairs.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree
  • 2-3 years experience working in outdoor recreation with expertise in 1-2 of the following areas (to include but not limited to backpacking, canoeing, sea kayaking, rock climbing, paddle-boarding)
  • WFR or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment
  • Ability to lift or carry weights of up to 50lbs or more for extended periods of time and in harsh weather conditions
  • Weekend and extended trip availability required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Recreation or related field
  • Certifications in one or more technical skill area (i.e. CWI, ACA, AMGA SPI, etc)
  • Certification is one or more interpersonal skill area (i.e. mental health first aid)
  • Experience working with indoor climbing facilities
  • Experience working in higher education recreation programming
