Job Summary:

The Chief of Psychology for Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO) will report directly to CHCO Mental Health In-Chief with matrixed reporting to the Chief Medical Officer of CHCO. The Chief will provide leadership to psychologists across CHCO, providing oversight of efforts throughout CHCO on matters relating to psychology practice and as well as directing the activities and assuring accountability of clinical psychologists whose practice is within CHCO.

Please note, this is an open rank position and could be categorized as an Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with CHCO Psychology leaders to advance, standardize, optimize quality, and sustain clinical programming system-wide through engagement with the CHCO Psychology Leadership Council and in partnership with Psychology leaders from across departments and programs.
  • Participating in Medical School initiatives to promote Psychology professional practice and advance pediatric behavioral health care.
  • Partnering with the Psychology Department within the CHCO Medical Staff Office to optimize credentialling and performance evaluation of psychologists system-wide.
  • Collaborating with clinical leaders and financial systems to provide fiscal accountability of Psychology practice, including productivity requirements, reporting systems, revenue tracking and quality monitoring.
  • Providing guidance and support for current and future evidence-based practice led by or involving Psychologists.
  • Overseeing the supervision and evaluation of psychology faculty, in collaboration with other psychology leadership.
  • Involvement in advocacy for child and adolescent mental health initiatives, informing and advising policy makers and government agencies, collaborating closely with CHCO government affairs team.
  • Working with Psychologists throughout CHCO to provide appropriate support for focused and ongoing professional practice reviews, billing and documentation assistance, recruiting and hiring, and expertise and advice on matters relating to Psychology practice.
  • Assisting in the development and oversight of a Psychology administrative and operational structure to support CHCO-wide Psychology practice.
  • Promoting and supporting research efforts by Psychologists through membership in the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute
  • Oversight of Psychology training programs at CHCO in collaboration with training directors.
  • Clinical responsibilities appropriate for background, expertise, and interest. 

The Chief of Psychology will also serve as the Director of Psychology for the Division of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (DCAMH) of the University of Colorado Department of Psychiatry (DOP) reporting to the Director of the DCAMH and the Vice Chair for Psychology.

Work Duties Include:

  • Participation on the Pediatric Mental Health Collaborative Leadership Team.
  • Participation in the DCAMH Faculty Executive Committee.
  • Membership in the Executive Council of the Department of Psychiatry’s Office of Psychological Science and Practice.
  • Providing supervision and evaluation as appropriate for psychology leaders, faculty, trainees, and researchers.
  • Mentoring of faculty (psychologists, psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, master’s level clinicians) to support a significant scholarly emphasis.
  • Lead and/or assist in the development of funded research programs.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.  

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:  

Associate Professor:

  • 4-7 years of relevant research or clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or PsyD from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association
  • Currently licensed as a clinical psychologist and eligible for licensure in the State of Colorado.

Professor:

  • 7+ years of relevant research or clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum degree qualifications: Ph.D. or PsyD from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association
  • Currently licensed as a clinical psychologist and eligible for licensure in the State of Colorado. 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Evidence of effective leadership of clinical programs and work within complex systems.
  • Evidence of significant research, evaluation, or quality improvement experience with appropriate funding and publication record.
  • Evidence of successful mentoring of faculty and trainees.
  • Evidence of service (or leadership in) to professional organizations related to the practice of psychology. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, students, alumni, industry and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Knows and applies best practices in diversity and inclusion practices or has knowledge and understands cultural differences.
  • Knowledge regarding clinical research regulations and principles of ethical conduct.
  • Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, residents, students, alumni, and administrative personnel at all levels including outside organizations and the public.
  • A demonstrated ability to organize and complete complex projects and to work under tight deadlines.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    • Associate Professor: $130,000- $145,000
    • Professor: $175,000 to $205,000
    • Administrative Stipend: $15,000/year with a 0.5 FTE buyout

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
