Department: Medicine, Division: Health Care Policy and Research

Job Title: Open Rank – Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Full Professor

Position # 00669485 – Requisition #: 31928

Job Summary:

The Division of Health Care Policy and Research at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus invites applications for a faculty (MD/DO, PhD, or equivalent) position with formal training in economics, health economics, health policy, health services research, or related fields to further enhance the Division’s research portfolio in health care access, outcomes, disparities, financing, patient safety, and quality. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desired: patient safety, quality of care, health disparities, quality of care, learning health systems, Medicaid and Medicare policy research, economic evaluation methods, health care data science, and/or value-based care/insurance models.

The mission of the Division of Health Care Policy and Research (HCPR) is to design and conduct health services research, policy analyses, and evaluations of innovations, programs, and policies that increase the value of health care services from multiple perspectives. HCPR faculty members investigate how dissemination, implementation (as well as de-implementation when appropriate), and sustainability of innovations in health care services, payment models, quality improvement, quality measurement approaches, and delivery system structures influence individual and population-level outcomes, health disparities, and value throughout our healthcare system. In addition to grant funded projects, HCPR actively pursues contract funding from federal and state government agencies.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers leading and contributing to innovative projects that focus on:

  • Medicare and Medicaid policies and regulations.
  • Clinical and system interventions aimed at improving health system performance, quality and value, including long-term and post-acute care services (e.g., nursing home, home health, and transitional care), hospice, and palliative care.
  • Health outcomes research.
  • Health insurance benefit design.
  • Improving patient safety in all settings.
  • Reducing health care disparities.

This is a research-intensive faculty appointment. The successful candidate will conduct rigorous, externally funded research that contributes to the Division’s mission through contributions to currently funded programs, pursuing funding in new promising areas, and developing collaborative relationships across the Anschutz Medical Campus, as well as with external partners. In collaboration with other HCPR faculty, the successful candidate will have access to a robust data environment that includes a campus-wide clinical data warehouse, a statewide all-payer claims database, regional electronic health data networks, and access to restricted state and federal data sources.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Developing and submitting proposals to obtain extramural funding for research.
  • Participating in collaborative, team science research projects, including serving as a co-investigator.
  • Publishing manuscripts in top peer-reviewed journals.
  • Disseminating research through multiple venues.
  • Providing mentorship and consultation for faculty, fellows, and graduate students.
  • Contributing to Division strategic planning and serving on Division committees as a faculty representative.

Work Location:

This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2-3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Why Join Us:

In addition to collaborations with other Divisions in the Department of Medicine and other School of Medicine Departments, HCPR faculty are actively engaged with the Adult and Child Center for Outcomes Research and Delivery Science (ACCORDS), the Eugene S. Farley Jr. Health Policy Center, the Colorado School of Public Health, University of Colorado Health, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System.
