Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
In accordance with guidelines and protocols of the University Health Center, utilize nursing skills and knowledge to provide general nursing care that meets the needs of patients and health providers.. This position is essential for health related University emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • BSN, BA or training from an accredited nursing program, from a four year college or university, or related experience or training. 
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licensed with the Maryland State Board of Nurses.

Experience:
3 years of nursing practice
Knowledge, skills, abilities:
  • Ability to perform appropriate nursing care based on standard nursing practice and start IV’s. Ability to chart patients’ medical concerns and nursing care given. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions from medical staff pertaining to patient care. 
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. 
  • Maintain yearly renewal of Maryland State Board of Nursing licensure. Maintain CPR Certification.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of patient assessment, education, treatments, and understanding related factors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Duty/Responsibility (1): | Administer treatment in accordance with Physicians’ instruction or policies, procedures and protocols. Able to assess, evaluate patient problems and respond appropriately based on health care protocols and standards of nursing practice for normal, abnormal, emergent, and/or life-threatening situations. Provide assistance in any Health Center clinical work area assigned with the ability to learn and carry out all nursing functions specific to that unit. Utilizes knowledge of coding rules to accurately document care in the electronic medical record.
Percentage (1): | 80%
Essential Duty/Responsibility (2): | Provide assistance in any Health Center clinical work area assigned with the ability to learn and carry out all nursing functions specific to that unit. Ensure that patients are always treated with respect, non-judgmental attitude, and confidentiality.
Percentage (2): | 10%
Essential Duty/Responsibility (3): | Maintain appropriate level of nursing skills including but not limited to: injections, patient assessment and diagnostic techniques. Other duties as assigned

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use fine motor skills, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.
