Description: The Hofstra University Museum of Art seeks a dynamic, experienced part-time education professional (up to 20 hours per week, mid-September-June, and possible summer hours) with a passion for teaching and learning, working in a non-traditional teaching environment, and a dedication to advancing skills and knowledge for young people in grades 6, 7, and 8. The selected individual will work with the Museum’s education staff in developing and implementing the grant-funded afterschool program, Enrichment to Excellence (E2E). This innovative program connects works of art to the lives of middle school students providing engaging and inspiring experiences in the arts including visual art, music, theater, writing, and media. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching across disciplines, using creative techniques and working as a team member. The afterschool program takes place in the Museum galleries and Museum Cultural Arts Lab with occasional visits to other areas of the University. Teaching in other museum education programs, grades K -12, is possible.
The selected individual will report to the Museum’s Education Director and team teach with another E2E museum educator.
Afternoon hours required (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 1:15 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.) with other to-be-determined hours.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. The successful candidate will be a dynamic teacher with a minimum of 2 years active and appropriate teaching experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have evidence of non-traditional, creative and inquiry-based approaches to teaching. The successful candidate will be a team player with excellent interpersonal skills, enjoys middle school-aged young people, digital media experience, is a creative and flexible thinker, and has excellent oral and written communication skills.
