Job Description

Creates and delivers videos in support of ASU News articles, media relations purposes and overall department projects. Assignments are generally quick-turn projects such as news videos, b-roll clips, and broadcast-type pieces aimed at news media. Assignments can include studio work as well as field assignments in a range of locations.

Essential Duties

  • This person creates, delivers and modifies video and sound elements; and determines format and approach to most effectively achieve desired results.
  • Operates video editing equipment; determines/edits special effects, composition and overall design of video productions; records audio.
  • Serves as producer and/or director of video and still photographic events; schedules equipment, selects location(s) and develops plan; completes all post-production editing and/or integration of elements to achieve desired outcome; maintains archives of digital photographs and video.
  • Pitches story/video ideas to editors.
  • Occasionally provides still photography when needed.
  • Works collaboratively with project team members to development and deployment of multimedia elements.
  • Remains abreast of technology directions, initiatives and trends within scope of expertise to provide ideas, guidance and recommendations.
  • Mentors and cross-trains other team members in areas of knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Graphic Arts, or a related area.GRAPHICS (Proficiency)2 years Macromedia Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, Audio- and - VIDEO (Proficiency)2 years video/audio production. OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in operation, calibration, and troubleshooting of production gear.
  • Production experience with non-linear editing software, post-production effects software, DVD authoring software.
  • Practical experience with various forms of video/audio media and digital delivery.
  • Proactively identifies, develops and deploys solutions to improve effectiveness of technology delivered materials/information.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject-area needs to design and/or modify content to achieve results.
  • Experience in defining tasks, responsibilities and outcomes; documents activities and tracks progress.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of user needs, requirements and requests to identify priorities; escalates urgent/conflicting requests.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of production elements, technique, and workflow to create effective multimedia communication.
  • Experience in technical knowledge of standard production gear.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cinematography principles (lighting, composition, etc.), analog and digital media formats, codecs, streaming methods, editing and post-production techniques.
  • Experience in planning, implementing and directing a video studio/field shoot either solo or acting as crew lead.
  • Experience in setting up audio and compose lighting to professional standards.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, problem-solving and be creatively flexible in the field.
  • Experience in planning, implementing and producing high production-value video programs as assigned.

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.

Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds.

Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.

Videography locations may include exposure to external environment/climate conditions with adverse weather conditions and rugged terrain – including but not limited to walking on uneven surfaces, climbing and high temperatures
