Position Summary

Administers local, inhalation, intravenous, and other anesthetics during surgical, obstetrical, or other medical procedures. Interprets and records patient's physiological and pharmacological status. Ability to provide continuity of care during the pre-op and post-op period and respond to life-threatening situations as required.

UNM Hospitals, ranked as one of "America's Best Hospitals" in 16 specialty areas, is a Level 1 Trauma Center. Being the only level 1 trauma center and tertiary referral center in the state, our facility provides a wide array of high acuity clinical cases. Under the direct supervision of an Anesthesiologist, the selected candidate will:

Administer local, inhalation, intravenous, and other anesthetics during surgical, obstetrical, or other medical procedures.

Interpret and record patient's physiological and pharmacological status.

Apply their ability to provide continuity of care during the pre-op and post-op period and respond to life-threatening situations, as required.

Participate in administrative affairs, research, and clinical instruction.

Collect preoperative data and perform physical examinations.

Insert venous, arterial, and other invasive catheters.

Securing and managing the airway.

Manage supportive therapy such as intravenous fluids and blood products.

Make anesthetic adjustments using intra-operative monitoring modalities.

Provide a safe transition from the operating room to the recovery area.

Conditions of Employment
  • CPR Certified.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable.
  • Must maintain certification status.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; no previous experience required. Certification/Licensure Eligible for New Mexico certification as a Physician's Assistant OR State of New Mexico Certified Nurse Practitioner or certification pending, as documented by temporary certificate.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
