Position Summary
The Washington University School of Medicine Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a qualified Medical Informaticist. The principal aim of this position is to enable the department to achieve strategic aims through the enhancement of utilization of the institutional electronic health record (Epic). The position also supports the departmental research enterprise by coordinating responses to the directives of faculty members. A respondent should be professional, proactive, detail oriented, and ready to master new skills and domain knowledge.
The Department of Radiation Oncology is part of the nationally renowned Siteman Cancer Center and features a faculty with accomplished clinicians and researchers. The Department of Radiation Oncology has professional administrative, research, and information technology support.
A detail oriented, growth-minded candidate is sought for managing multiple workflow optimization and data-centered projects within the department of Radiation Oncology. This is a hybrid position with potential educational opportunities within Washington University. Candidates with some combination of clinical domain knowledge, technical skills, and project management experience are preferred.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conceive, document, and implement Epic optimization projects.
  • Professionally interface with multiple groups in the Radiation Oncology department and within the university.
  • Define agendas and lead routine and ad-hoc meetings with department groups and with institutional groups.
  • Implement, monitor, and update projects in appropriate software system (SmartSheet, Jira, etc.)
  • Clinical Trials: candidate will work closely with Clinical Trials team to support study monitoring, statistical plans, and research manuscript generation
  • Cancer Center Oncology Data: candidate will partner in institutional collaborations to promote cross-cutting data access
  • Research infrastructure management
  • Leverage Research Infrastructure Services (RIS), Box and OneDrive for departmental use-cases. Enforce best practice for data management.
  • Team task management, accountability, and execution.
  • Provision tasks to the team according to team roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide task execution.
  • Biomedical Informatics Skill Development
  • Epic navigation, Workbench, and SlicerDicer functionality
  • DICOM and DICOM RT
  • SQL, R, and Python


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Healthcare and research experience.
  • Experience with EPIC.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Passion for improving research and clinical decision making and enhanced health care delivery.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in math, statistics, computer science, informatics, or related fields. Five years’ professional experience may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Demonstrated experience working on projects related to clinical decision support, medical terminologies, health information systems, or health-related applications.

Salary Range
$52,000.00 - $88,800.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
