Position Summary

Would you like to play a crucial role in ensuring that UNM trains highly-skilled doctors to provide exceptional care to the children of New Mexico and beyond? Would you like to do this while getting to work from home two days per week? Would you like to work with a supportive group of staff and faculty, have great benefits, and earn a pension? If so, this may be the job for you!

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a self-motivated and highly-organized individual to join our Office of Education team as the Medical Education Program Coordinator for our Neonatology and Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) Fellowships. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt (paid by the hour), administrative (non-clinical) position. Applicant is eligible to work remotely for up to two days per week after successful completion of probationary period.

Under the general supervision of the Medical Education Program Manager and the fellowship Program Directors, the person in this position plans and implements the administrative and operational activities of the Neonatology and PHM Fellowships. The role provides direct support to fellows and serves as the first line of communication with fellows, fellowship applicants, fellowship faculty, the UNM GME office, and national organizations.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

·       Coordinate recruitment and onboarding of new fellows

·       Ensure the timely completion of program and fellow requirements

·       Organize events, such as graduation

·       Make purchases and track expenses

·       Coordinate, prepare for, attend, and track action items from meetings and didactics

·       Create and maintain educational resources and marketing materials

About the Pediatrics Office of Education:

Our office exists within the Department of Pediatrics, which is part of the UNM School of Medicine. We are entrusted with the rewarding responsibility of working with faculty and learners to ensure the successful pediatric education of medical students and physicians at various levels of training. Five education programs are coordinated by our office and our staff is cross-trained to assist and cover for each other when needed. Additionally, we are part of a large, supportive network of other pediatric medical education coordinators nationwide.

About the Programs You Would Coordinate:

This position coordinates two fellowship programs, which allow doctors to subspecialize after they have become pediatricians. Our Neonatology Fellowship trains doctors to work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This long-established, three-year program accepts two applicants per year, for a total of six fellows. Our Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship trains doctors to care for sick kids who are hospitalized. This brand new, two-year program accepts two applicants per year, for an ultimate total of four fellows. Because our first fellows will begin this summer, we will have only two fellows for the first year.
