The Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute, a Department of Energy University Facility, is jointly supported by DOE and the State of Texas and is a major technical and educational resource for the state and the nation. The Master Utilities Maintenance Technician will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment and machinery. They will take a leadership role in ensuring that mechanical maintenance is executed safely and efficiently and in such a manner as to restore or improve the reliability of the equipment being maintained. What You Need to Know

Salary Range: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.

Works Schedule: Ability to occasionally work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Seven years of related experience in the maintenance of equipment such as industrial power boilers, steam and/or gas turbine driven generators, or industrial or commercial chilling equipment

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Forklift certification within 6 months of employment or when training next available through EH&S

  • Special Note: Failure to successfully complete any of the TAMU training & development program for Master Utilities Maintenance Technicians may result in termination

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of mechanical diagnostic tools (ex: laser alignment and vibration data processors)

  • Knowledge of root cause analyses methods

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally hand-carry light duty equipment

  • Must be able to ascend stairs, stand for extended periods of time, and be able to lift and/or move heavy weight objects

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Welding Certification

  • ISA Certification Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic

Responsibilities:

  • Preventative Maintenance: Performs preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on various equipment such as Cooling tower fans, tower pumps all heat exchangers and lcw water pumps. Repairs all water leaks in Cyclotrons and related equipment. Maintains cooling tower chemical balance. Maintains Low conductivity water system chemical balance. Performs maintenance on building air compressors and hydraulic systems.

  • Installation: Installs and repairs copper pipes up to 4 inches long with valve.

  • Recommendations: Makes recommendations to avoid equipment failures. Provides direction to AT’s. Assists in preparation of cost estimates on new project installs and performs other duties as assigned.
