The National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) in Portland, Oregon, is seeking a versatile, creative writer and editor to lead the creation of marketing and editorial content for the oldest accredited naturopathic medical university in North America. This position will be an integral part of a creative team focused on elevating the visibility, reputation, and brand awareness of one of the most respected universities of natural medicine in the world. The output from the team plays a vital role in student recruitment, development, clinical outreach and more.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As part of a small Marketing and Communications team, the Marketing Content Specialist supports institutional brand strategies, engagement, and lead-generation initiatives. The role requires a talented writer with a range of writing and editing skills for feature stories, news, social media, email marketing and web copy. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated storyteller and critical thinker with strong attention to detail. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, this position is an integral part of a creative team focused on elevating the visibility, reputation and brand awareness of NUNM.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with marketing and admissions to understand enrollment priorities and support these goals.
  • Writing and editing stories about student experiences, faculty research, alumni successes; for admissions campaigns, digital advertising, newsletters and promotional collateral.
  • Interview faculty experts from across the university and institutes, as well as students, alumni, donors and partners for use in print and/or digital communications.
  • Edit stories and copy for fellow members of the Marketing and Communications team, other departments across the university in a timely manner with a focus on accuracy, compelling content and AP Style rules.
  • Utilize SEO best practices in all web content to boost NUNM’s web presence.
  • Update content on WordPress websites.
  • Post relevant new content consistently; continually assess and alter content strategy to achieve strong engagement.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing or related field. Minimum 1–2 years of experience as a content writer, preferably in higher education, nonprofit or healthcare industries; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Strong ability to communicate complex ideas or information in accessible and compelling ways.
  • Strong understanding of brand journalism and how to write for targeted audiences.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in communications for a higher-education institution. 
  • Experience with web content management (WordPress), CRM, Adobe Creative Suite. 
  • Experience with photography and videography.
