Here’s a Glimpse of the Job

Are you interested in working for a newly created research center out of Texas A&M University in College Station, TX? The Department of Chemistry is hiring a Managing Director for the new NSF Center for the Mechanical Control of Chemistry (NSF-CMCC). The Center needs an individual capable of supporting executive oversight and strategic planning and action. The Managing Director will help to facilitate the research activities, aid in the review and allocation of resources, support activities for securing additional funding, and supervise CMCC staff, to ensure program strategies and activities align with the NSF-CMCC vision and mission.

Opportunities to contribute:

  • Provide managerial and operational oversight

  • Exercises supervisory authority over Center staff

  • Develop, oversee, and evaluate research program strategic planning initiatives

  • Establish objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources

  • Develop, implement, direct, and evaluate research program operating policies and procedures

  • Aid in the coordination of CMCC instrumentation utilization

  • Serve as the center liaison and key spokesperson to internal and external stakeholder groups

  • Assist in the development and auditing of program budget(s).

  • Coordinate research activities

  • Disseminate achievement to program directors, the scientific community, and stakeholders

  • Coordinate, manage, and contribute to center educational, outreach, broadening participation, and innovation activities

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Engineering, or related fields

  • Relevant professional experience

A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:

  • A solid understanding of the research and education landscape in STEM

  • Experience with Federal and/or academic research program administration

  • Experience in working with the chemical industry

  • Demonstrated project management skills

  • Excellent writing and communication skills

  • Salary: Compensation and classification are based on the analyses of the above qualifications during the recruitment process.

  • Hybrid/Remote Work Option: Due to the nature of this position, a hybrid or remote work arrangement may be available for workplace flexibility

  • This position is ORP Eligible

  • Occasional travel required

  • Occasional work required after hours or during weekends
