Job Description

The Management Intern (MI) - Data Analyst will provide critical data and statistical support to the Educational
Outreach and Student Services Division at Arizona State University. Reporting to the Data Science Specialist within
the EOSS Strategic Marketing and Communications team, the Management Intern – Data Analyst will be
responsible for conducting data analysis, identifying trends, and generating insights to facilitate data-driven
decision-making. Additionally, the MI will provide operational support, including maintaining data metrics,
researching data integrity issues, and assisting with internal and external data requests, while also creating
impactful data visualizations.

The ideal candidate must work well in a fast paced, flexible environment, providing a high level of customer service
to community partners; must be a strong team player and individual contributor; and must provide planning or
project management skills and utilize sound judgment at all times.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Work location is primarily at the Tempe campus; however, incumbent may be required to
travel to off-campus events and other ASU campuses to perform work driving their own vehicle. This is a 20 hour
per week position, and may include some nights and weekends. This position is a short term-position of a 12-
month experience or less. An additional one-year extension may be offered contingent upon an annual review.
Candidate is required to be enrolled in a Graduate Program during the duration of employment and
continuation of employment will be based on enrollment in a Graduate Program.

Essential Duties

Data Analysis:

  • Utilize problem-solving skills and analytical understanding to conduct statistical analyses of various data
  • systems.
  • Demonstrate technical competency in using data analytics software such as Tableau, PowerBI,
  • Identify trends and generate insights to facilitate data-driven decision-making or storytelling.
  • Communicate key findings to various stakeholders and build high-level dashboards to track agency
  • metrics and initiatives.
  • Aggregate data from multiple sources to construct streamlined data pipelines and integrate data from
  • multiple systems.


Data Visualizations:

  • Develop compelling data visualizations using tools such as Excel, SPSS, Tableau, PowerBI, etc., to
  • effectively communicate insights and trends.
  • Design and create interactive dashboards that provide actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure visualizations align with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance data visualization techniques and best practices.


Operational Support:

  • Provide support to internal teams on projects involving data analysis.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve operational efficiency, develop reports, and maintain
  • spreadsheets/data metrics.
  • Update and maintain EOSS unit-focused milestones, metrics, and performance management indicators.
  • Research data integrity issues, identify root causes or inconsistencies, and perform required cleanup.
  • Support and provide technical assistance for inquiries and issues.
  • Triage and track internal and external data requests.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field; OR, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Experience using data analytics tools and applications.
  • Experience in data visualization tools like Tableau or Google Data Studio
  • Experience in SQL and querying from large data sets
  • Experience analyzing survey data
  • Experience in using organizational skills and working independently
  • Evidence of effective communication skills
  • Experience in managing multiple projects, prioritizing workload, and problem-solving
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and data-driven mindset.
  • Ability to assist non-technical users who depend on technology to perform their jobs.
