Position Information

Planning, Design & Construction manages/coordinates the integrated long-term development of UCR's physical and built environment, including the planning, design, and construction of new major and minor capital projects, as well as deferred maintenance projects. This position is expected to provide direct support for all operations within PDC, including Campus Planning, Project Management, Fire Life Safety, and Building & Safety. The Assistant Director will help coordinate integration within the various PDC programs and support the AVC in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of the unit, and to support seamless integration of project implementation, planning through delivery.

The salary range for Assistant Director is $87,300 - $163,300 annually. We base placement within these ranges on the individual's qualifications as they relate to this position.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Minimum Requirements

Advanced knowledge of building and construction, design, construction contract administration and California Building Codes, including advanced understanding of industry practices, or deep expertise in a highly specialized and critical discipline.
Advanced analytical, organizational and problem recognition/avoidance/resolution skills.
Advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including highly effective negotiation skills and highly developed political acumen.
Advanced project management skills to effectively manage highly complex projects, or highly specialized and critical project component.
Advanced ability to manage contractors and maintain compliance to the agreed-upon scope of work and budget.
Excellent computer skills and knowledge of various computer software programs, including, but not limited to: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, Adobe, and construction project management software.


Preferred Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its infrastructure, rules, regulations, policies and short and long range strategic building plans.

Related experience and/or knowledge of U.C. Policy and Procedures related to facilities, planning, design, and construction.

Knowledge of project management processes for capital projects with an institute of higher education or similar environment.

Familiarity with design and construction contracts, contract law, public contracting code, and construction claims procedures.

Knowledge of Division of State Architect (DSA) and State Fire Marshal (SFM) code and policy requirements for higher education construction.
