Position Summary and Duties
Responsible for performing light shuttle and vehicle maintenance (changing flat tires, jump starts, bulb and wiper replacement, cleaning, etc.), transport University vehicles to and from service providers. The incumbent must have a CDL with passenger endorsement, as they will also drive commercial buses and shuttles to and from third party service providers and drive university charters and shuttle routes as directed by department supervisors.
Essential job functions:
  • Clean, fuel and maintain Motor Pool fleet daily. Track and schedule preventive maintenance and emissions testing. Perform weekly safety checks on all vehicles and facilitate repairs. Change light bulbs, tires, wipers, and batteries as needed in Motor Pool fleet and Bus fleet. Drive vehicles or buses to and from third party service providers as needed. File copies of all maintenance records in appropriate vehicle binder and/or in online maintenance record in Fleet software.

  • Drive campus shuttles and charters as directed. Safely drive our students, faculty and staff around campus and other locations as needed, following all campus and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) regulations in our 14, 25 and 40 passenger buses. Ensure a safe, welcoming and comfortable experience for our passengers. Perform all CDL driver requirements, including daily fueling, cleaning, driver related maintenance, pre and post trip inspections, and yearly physicals. Provide superior customer service by having a friendly disposition, keeping the bus at a comfortable temperature, and providing a smooth ride. Being a team member by being courteous to the other drivers and staff, clear and timely communication, reporting on time and keeping an eye out for safety issues.
  • Use computer reservation system to check vehicle reservations. Work with Enterprise for rental vehicles’ pick up and return, making sure rental vehicles are clean and re-fueled.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

This position is budgeted at $19 to $22 per hour. Pay is based on experience and qualifications.
Required Qualifications
At least three years of experience with light vehicle maintenance and a minimum of two years driving experience.
Vocational or technical training
Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with B, P and Air Brake endorsements and a good driving record. Able to problem solve and work independently.
Familiarity with Baltimore City and the Loyola University Community.
Knowledge of Word, Excel, a variety of software applications, and Outlook.
Great customer service skills.
Team Player.
Must be able to successfully complete driver’s clearance process for insurability.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings as required.

Work requires some physical exertion such as periods of standing; recurring bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds; and the operation of motor vehicles. Work environment may be somewhat dirty or involve exposure to elements such as dust, fumes, cold, heat, noise, vibrations, or dampness; or working around moving parts or machines. Duties may require infrequent exposure to adverse weather conditions.
