Job Summary:

This highly technical advanced locksmith position performed under general supervision of the Shop Supervisor, Locksmith Shop, Physical Plant, University of Wisconsin-Madison. Duties include installing and servicing state-of-the-art electronic stand-alone access control systems; knowledge of job-related software associated with electronic hardware; experience and knowledge of cutting-edge high-security lock cylinders; and knowledge and ability to read and understand hardware and door schedules. Maintain up-to-date computerized key and lock records, repair locks, design master key systems, install locks and security devices, and repair safes and vaults.
The Locksmiths are responsible for the security of approximately 300 buildings with an excess of 400,000 lockable doors on the Madison campus, including some of the most elementary and sometimes antiquated locks to the most complex, state-of-the-art, and highest security systems available today. They include computerized card readers, Schlage AD 200, and AD 400 offline access control hardware. The locksmiths are responsible for updating and filing more than 40 to 50 thousand pattern keys and many more filed on the computer system. They are code compliant with ADA regulations and are Life, Safety, and Fire Code certified.


Responsibilities:
Installs and maintains locks and control systems to ensure the safety and security of students and employees. Maintains and updates computerized key and lock records to ensure availability of up-to-date facility security information.
  • 25% Installs and services various electronic control systems and locks
  • 20% Collects, enters, and updates computerized key records
  • 20% Analyzes and interprets hardware, door schedules, and lock patterns, updates information based on user requests and needs
  • 20% Develops pinning schedules for master lock system(s) for multiple buildings
  • 5% Work in Laboratory environments that may contain Chemical, Biological & Radiological hazards as
    well as non-human beings and test subjects.
  • 5% Occasionally work beyond 40 hours a week, nights, weekends and/or holidays.
  • 5% Maintain integrity of classified information, records and keying for Federal, State & Local
    authorities we may work with as well as the Faculty, Staff and Departments they are associated with.

The minimum salary for this position is $20.00 per hour, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
