Technology Services is on the hunt for motivated Linux Systems Administrators to play a key role in supporting Texas A&M University. We are currently seeking a Linux Systems Administrator I and a Lead Linux Systems Administrator. In these positions, you will be opportunity to manage the installation, configuration, and maintenance of our Linux systems and infrastructure.  


 


As a Linux Systems Administrator I, you will be executing day-to-day operational tasks that keep our systems running smoothly, including vital configuration changes and ensuring our operating systems and applications are up to date with the latest patches. In this role, you will also be modifying existing configuration states for servers, ensuring optimal performance and security. As a key player in our incident response team, you'll be at the forefront of identifying issues, responding swiftly to incidents, and escalating them as necessary to ensure rapid resolution. 


 


As a Lead Linux Systems Administrator, you will be contributing your expertise to our team by providing technical guidance and operational assistance to our less senior administrators. In this role, you will create new configuration states for servers to enhance our performance, security, and scalability, and ensure compliance and standardization. You will be instrumental in troubleshooting and resolving issues related to complex configuration states. As a senior level expert in our team, you will be a critical escalation point for complex issues, providing advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving support. In this role, you will be working closely with both customers and external support teams on server and service management, ensuring smooth and reliable service delivery.

Salary Range: Commensurate with education and experience.    


Schedule: You will be expected to provide assistance with our Tier III on-call support rotation 


 


Qualifications     
*We are seeking Linux System Administrators with various levels of experience. Individuals with limited to multiple years of experience are encouraged to apply! ** 


 


Linux Systems Administrator I  


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience AND two years of systems administration experience.  


Lead Linux Systems Administrator  


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience AND five years of related experience in IT two years of team/project leadership.  


A well-qualified candidate for any of these positions will also possess:  


  • Proficiency in managing Linux operating systems  


  • Proficiency with RHEL or related distributions, Linux configuration management, system monitoring and alerting, automation using scripting. 

  • Excellent written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills  

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.  

  • ITIL Foundations Certification
