Position Details


Job Summary
The Eastern Washington University (EWU) Department of Physical Therapy invites applications for a full-time (9 month) Lecturer appointment in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program to begin August 16, 2024. This position is a one-year appointment for AY2024-2025. Candidates with expertise in neurological settings and experience teaching in a DPT Program are preferred.
Position responsibilities include:
  • Teach graduate courses consistent with expertise and department instructional needs
  • Advise DPT students
  • Provide service to the university/community/PT profession

The DPT Program is located at EWU Spokane, a health sciences campus with state-of-the-art space and facilities. The campus is located next to downtown Spokane, and is within walking distance to trails along the Spokane River. Spokane is the heart of the Inland Northwest, with excellent restaurants, theaters, shopping, skiing, hiking, lakes, and high-quality schools and affordable housing. The Spokane campus is a satellite of EWU’s main campus in Cheney, WA. The DPT Program is 2 years 9 months in length, has 9 full-time faculty members, and admits 38 students each fall. Opportunities for summer teaching may be available.

Conditions of Employment

Required Qualifications
  • State of Washington PT license eligible
  • 3 years clinical practice experience as a PT
  • Proficient in use of classroom technology
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications: Additional consideration may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
  • Licensed in Washington state
  • 5 years clinical practice experience as a PT
  • Academic doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, EdD)
  • Clinical specialization certification
  • Expertise in neurological patient management
  • Experience teaching in a DPT Program or other higher education setting
  • Current membership in the American Physical Therapy Association
  • Current active service to the PT profession

Responsibility / Duty
Position responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, and service to the university/community/profession. The faculty member will teach courses with neurological content and assist in other program coursework as assigned.
Additionally, all faculty are expected to:
  • Engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
  • Meet all scheduled classes.
  • Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales.
  • Schedule and attend office hours.
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines.
  • Advise students who are declared majors on department, college and University requirements and career opportunities.
  • Supervise students in laboratory and simulated learning experiences.
  • Collaborate with faculty to design high-quality focused experiential learning activities.
  • Facilitate relevancy between department curriculum and industry needs.
