Job Summary
The Integrated Media Department at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA invites applications for a 100% FTE, one-year fixed-term lecturer position beginning fall 2024 semester. Our department seeks individuals with professional experience, scholarly interests, and/or teaching experience in the field of public relations. Expectations include teaching undergraduate courses in the public relations major, such as Strategic Communications, Writing for Public Relations, PR Speech Writing and Delivery, and other courses depending on the candidate’s interest and experiences. Versatility to teach courses in our department’s other majors (broadcast studies and journalism) as well as Media Literacy is desirable.
We look forward to collaborating with a colleague who has strong pedagogical abilities, with particular sensitivity to inclusive, equity-minded teaching practices and who has demonstrated experience or interest in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students from a variety of backgrounds and identities, including those historically marginalized in the academy.

Essential Functions
  • Teach a 4-4 load (24 credits per academic year) of mixed upper and lower division courses in the Integrated Media Department, including Writing for Public Relations, Strategic Communications, PR Speech Writing and Delivery, and other departmental courses as needed.
  • Provide curriculum and career advising and mentoring to the program’s undergraduates.
  • Hold four office hours per week.
  • Attend department meetings and engage in departmental service.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A PhD, MFA, MA, or MS in public relations or related field (e.g. strategic communication, communication, media studies, marketing, business administration).
  • At least one year of professional experience in public relations, media relations, strategic communications or other related fields.
  • At least one year of teaching or teaching assistant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to support and mentor underrepresented and underserved students and contribute to an inclusive learning environment.
Desired Qualifications
  • The capability to teach the department’s introductory course Media Literacy, along with the ability to teach courses in two or more of the department’s majors: journalism, broadcasting, and public relations.
  • Professional and/or academic experience in developing social media presence for PR clients and enthusiasm for embracing evolving technologies and platforms.
